ReportACall was set up by Steve Smith and John Price in 2009.

Steve Smith and John Price have each worked in the call centre industry for over 20 years. They have both been advocates of responsible telemarketing within the industry, and have helped to shape the legislation that now controls it. They published research in 2005 (www.BrookmeadConsulting.co.uk) that for the first time showed the level of distress that nuisance calls were causing many people.

Steve & John were concerned that the number of nuisance calls was bound to increase with the introduction of new cheap technologies that were unregulated. Two steps were necessary:

  • They felt that companies would only stop making these calls when they realised the damage they were doing to their relationship with the public, so they created the ReportACall website to allow reports to be posted by anyone.

  • They believed that people should have control over the calls they were receiving, so they developed trueCall – a device that you can plug into your landline at home to block unwanted phone calls (www.trueCall.co.uk). You may have seen trueCall on Dragons Den recently where all five Dragons made an offer of investment!
